It had been only a couple dates, a few passionate kisses, and some sensual touches. But for Speed, he already knew that he was in love. Very much in love with one Horatio Caine. He hadn’t felt like this since Andrew. A time when he was so carefree and innocent. It seemed like it was long ago, yet the pain was still very present. To fall in love all over again, opening up his heart and soul – frankly, it scared the shit out of him.

Dinner had been perfect, full of promise of things to come. That was until Horatio had gotten a phone call from Yelina. He had regretfully called the evening short and gave Speed a hard, deep kiss, whispering naughty things in his ear before driving off in the Hummer. Now days later, they had barely any time to say hello, let alone fulfill those heated promises.

Speed looked down at the report and frowned. If the findings were accurate, there was no way their suspect could have been in the area at the time of the killing, which meant he wasn’t the killer and the true killer was still out there. He grabbed the report and went looking for his Lieutenant. He had a slight grin on his face; maybe he could convince him to come by for some dinner, and maybe dessert.

He stopped at the end of the hallway and frowned. There was Horatio and Yelina, in each other’s arms. Speed turned and walked away, leaving them to their private moment. His heart was breaking with each step. Leaving the report on Horatio’s desk, he went back to the Trace lab to write out his reports. He slipped on his headphones, tuning out the world, and maybe if he focused on the work he could forget that for a moment he had felt love again.

It seemed fate was against him as the song filtered into his ears.

When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin’ when I hold you
Don’t you know I feel the same
‘Cause nothin’ lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it’s hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain

He pulled off the headphones and glared at the offending item. Normally Guns n Roses didn’t send him into a melancholy fit on the verge of tears. He needed to get out of here. Just leave, maybe never come back. He rolled his eyes. ‘Way to be overly dramatic there Speed. It was just a few dates. What’s the big deal?’ The big deal was that he had actually believed this time…

“Speed?”

He tensed at hearing Horatio’s voice. He took a deep breath and turned towards him. “Hey, H, I left my report on your desk… Looks like we’ll have to find another suspect, so I’ve been going through the evidence …”

Horatio laid a hand on his arm. “I read the report. Yelina is looking into any other leads.”

Speed pulled his arm out of reach. “Okay… then, well, I’m tired and was thinking of taking off a bit early. With the overtime yesterday, actually the past couple of days, there’s stuff I got to get done…”

The redhead frowned. “I thought you were coming over for dinner?”

“About that…” He ran a hand through his hair. “Maybe this isn’t a good idea.”

“What?” Horatio asked, hands on his hips.

“Us, this…” Speed looked over H’s shoulder to see Yelina walking up to the Lab. He looked down and bit back a scathing remark. “Just that it probably wouldn’t work… so before it gets too complicated…”

Horatio tilted his head slightly, looking at him with looking confusion. “I thought it was going good. Speed, just come to dinner and let’s talk.”

“Horatio,” Yelina called out as she stepped into the lab. “I’ve got the info you need.”

Speed looked between the two, his heart shattering. It was obvious Yelina wanted her brother-in-law, and rumors had it that Horatio had at one point courted her. They belonged together. He slipped off his lab coat and walked past the couple.

“Speed…” Horatio called after him.

“Night,” he said without looking back. It didn’t take him long to grab his coat and helmet from the locker room and get out of the lab. He looked up to see the storm clouds rolling in. ‘Great, just add to the melodrama.’

So if you want to love me
then darlin’ don’t refrain
Or I’ll just end up walkin’
In the cold November rain

“Horatio?” Yelina asked, concerned, as Speed ran out of the lab.

“I don’t know what just happened.” He shook his head. “We were supposed to have dinner….”

She looked down the hall at the retreating figure, realization hitting her. “I’m sorry.”

“Nothing for you to be sorry for.” Horatio shrugged. “I guess I read into it wrong.”

“No.” Yelina forced him to look at her. “Don’t let him walk away.”

“He obviously doesn’t…” He stepped back from her fierce glare.

“What if he thinks you want to be with me?” she pushed.

“Why would he think that?” Horatio shook his head. “You’re family…”

“And how many times have you been called away from a date because I called?” Yelina pointed out. “And I am sorry for that. If I had known…” She smacked him for good measure. “I wouldn’t have called.”

“You need my help.” He frowned.

“Not to the point of pulling you away from a date,” she said. “Besides, I think he may have seen you and me earlier today.”

“We were working a ca…” Horatio stepped back, realization registering on his face. Yelina had been upset earlier; her mother was taking a turn for the worse and he had comforted her.

“Go get him and drag his scared ass back where it belongs: in your bed.” She gave him a cheeky grin.

Horatio grabbed his cell and called Speed’s house, growling when he got the answering machine. He knew if he was out on the bike he wouldn’t answer his cell. He had to find his scruffy lover, soon. Well, there was always one way.

Speed pulled over to the side of the road. “Great, what else can just fuck up my day.” A cloud of thunder answered his question. He slipped off his helmet and glared up at the darkening sky.

“Are you Timothy Speedle?” the officer asked as he stepped up to the bike.

Speed just looked at him. “Yes. Can I help you, officer?”

He smiled slightly. “I have orders to hold you here. But I’ll be nice and not mention the fact you were going Seventy in a Fifty-five zone.”

“I’m out in the middle of nowhere.” Speed gestured to the open everglades.

“Still sir, one wrong move and…” He gestured around him. “And you’re out in the middle of nowhere.”

Smart ass cop. Speed huffed. “So why are you holding me here?”

“Was just told to hold a Timothy Speedle on a yellow Ducati.” He eyed the flashy bike.

“Look, unless you have a warrant…” He paused as the sound of another vehicle pulled up. He rolled his eyes when he saw Horatio step out of the Hummer.

The redhead walked up to the officer and gave him a smile. “Thank you, officer, I’ll take it from here.”

“Lieutenant.” The officer got back into his patrol car and drove off down the road.

The two men stared at each other.

“What do you want?” Speed demanded. He didn’t appreciate being hunted down like a criminal.

“We need to talk,” Horatio stated simply.

“Here?” He looked around.

“Well, since you ran out of the lab and refused to come over,” Caine pointed out, “here it is.”

“There’s nothing to talk about.” Speed dismounted his bike and faced Horatio.

“I think there’s plenty.” Horatio reached out and grabbed the younger man, pulling him into a hard, deep kiss. His hands slipped into the soft dark hair, holding him as he devoured the warm mouth.

Speed pulled back, stumbling away from him. His eyes flashing with mixed emotions. Above them the sky thundered, just before the rain came pouring down. “What the fuck do you want with me?” Speed yelled.

“You,” Horatio countered just as he reached out again, grabbing his arm. “There’s nothing between me and Yelina. She’s family, that’s it.”

“Didn’t look like it to me,” the younger man countered.

“Her mother is dying; I was giving her some comfort.” He raised his voice over the sound of the rain and thunder.

Speed wiped the rain off his face and looked at the redhead. “You don’t want her?”

“No.” Horatio pushed Speed up against the Hummer with force. “I want you.” He growled before taking his mouth into another deep kiss.

The two were locked in a passionate embrace. Their clothes became soaked from the rain as they rubbed against each other in a desperate need. Horatio licked a path down the scruffy jaw and neck, while his hands pulled at the wet material, seeking hot flesh. Speed’s hands slipped into the red hair, arching his neck to give the older man better access. He wrapped one leg around the slim hips and pulled Horatio closer, rubbing his trapped erection against the redhead. Both men moaned at the contact. He took Speed’s mouth into a deep kiss, tongues tangling, as he thrust against the warm body, seeking desperately that sweet friction as they strived for completion. He pushed Speed up, forcing the younger man to wrap both legs around him. They were lost in each other, their cries carried away by the wind and rain. Speed held on as the sensations overwhelmed him, legs tightening around Horatio’s slim waist as he desperately rubbed against the redhead, his orgasm suddenly taking over him as he screamed out his lover’s name. He felt Horatio thrust against him a few more times then still in his arms as he came with a gargled moan against Speed’s throat.

He slipped his hands into the soaked red hair and tugged, until he was looking into the soft blue eyes. Speed kissed him slow and sweet. His legs dropped back down to the ground as he leaned back against the Hummer. They continued to hold and kiss despite the rain still coming down.

Horatio pulled back and swiped the rain soaked hair from Speed’s face. “Come home with me.”

Speed gave him a smirk. “Once you let this rain soaked scruffy CSI in…”

He nuzzled the younger man’s neck. “I have no intention of letting you go.”

“Take me home,” he whispered as he took the soft lips into another kiss.

And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain, ohhh yeahhh
I know that you can love me
When there’s no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
‘Cause nothin’ lasts forever
Even cold November rain
