Afternoon Fic: Mac/Danny Sylum Story – Part 8

Part One

Part Seven

“I can’t believe I’m sitting outside in an ambulance, waiting for Mac and Danny to get it on.”  Flack sighed as he lounged on the stretcher, he glared at Blade. “I blame you for this.”

Allan was curled up in the front seat, reading the latest Derrick Storm book by Richard Castle.  “You should be happy I brought the non-Vampire snacks.”

Don hesitated for a moment, then sat up and looked directly at Blade.  “Tell me about Hannibal.”

“What?”  Blade sat back slightly, not that he had much room to maneuver, as the space was very limited.

“I remember him.  He was with you all the time, and then suddenly he wasn’t.”  It had taken the detective weeks to even think about asking the question, then the situation with Danny he just decided to take the Hunter by the horns.  “He left New York because of me.”

“Yes.”

Allan put the book down, as the drama behind him was becoming more fascinating.  “Why would he leave because of Don?”

“He’s his Mate.” Blade looked directly at the detective. “Hannibal knew the moment he held you in his arms at your Baptism.  He handed you back to your mom, then ran. Came back a few months later, just to watch you grow some. Then about the time you hit four, he knew it was time to leave New York.  He’s been Hunting for these past thirty years.”

“I heard about this, but never saw it, but then I’m fairly new to the world.”  Allan looked over at Don, who had his eyes clothes. “I only got pulled into it, because my brothers were Turned.  Scott was the first, test pilot … you do the math. Then John because of he had Leukemia, and then after 9/11 Virgil got his ass Turned by John … after seeing your Mac and Danny I’m having suspicions about them.”

Blade looked at the kid.  “And?”

“I’m not sure honestly, it’s not like they are having kids, and they were always close.  I’m just not sure, they’re my brothers. Yet they’re happy.” He glanced back at Don. “Are you okay knowing your some Vampire’s Mate?”

“That Vampire is my friend and Childe.”  Blade focused on Don. “He left to give you a life.  Didn’t want you to feel obligated, if you got married had kids, it was your decision and he would’ve accepted it.”

“After I broke up with the last girlfriend, Tanya.  We’d been together for five years and she was hinting openly about settling down, getting married, having kids and I just couldn’t.  So I broke it off with her, it was a nasty break up. She accused me of leading her on, wasting her biological clock … I went home to mom and dad, as you do.  Mom confessed that the reason I haven’t settled down is instinctively I knew about Hannibal. I played the field, but knew I belonged to him.”

“And you’re okay being Turned?”  Allan asked. “Should I get enough for three?”

Don glared at him.  “At first I wasn’t sure.  I mean I only really know Blade and Munch in the Vampire world, and I’m not all that involved outside New York.  All my friends would be gone in years time. Then seeing Mac and Danny … I want that.”

“I tell him to come home.”  Blade pulled his phone out, pulled up Hannibal’s contact number.  He hesitated enough to let Don give him the signal, then hit send.
