Sylum Inspiration: Thomas Anderson

Border: Lead Hunter

Thomas Anderson was born in 1890 to John and Michelle Anderson. He grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and lost his parents to a house fire in 1895 while he was off visiting relatives. His uncle, unable to care for him along with his own seven children, sent him to live with his grandparents in London. He enlisted in the military in 1914 and was part of the African theatre in World War I. During these skirmishes, he befriended Morpheus, who Turned him when he was mortally wounded.

Sylum Inspiration: Michael Dundee

Oceania: Scientist

Michael Dundee has no idea who his father was. He was raised on the edge of town by his mother, who had been shipped to Australia because she was pregnant. She worked hard and he will always remember her smile.

She taught him to read and write. But mostly taught him to value himself and everyone. When she died, he set out to find where his place was in the world.

He traveled out to the Outback and found himself.

Dundee came back into town, and ended up meeting Max Cadbury. He liked the guy instantly, trusted him. Max returned the trust by letting him know about the truth of what he was and along with his companions.

It was this Michael knew he was destined for.

Sylum Inspiration: Maximilian Cadbury

Oceania: Clan Leader

Maximilian is from the Cadbury family. He doesn’t talk about it much, just that his brother was Richard, and his nephew was John, who went off to create Cadbury Chocolate. He was named after his own Uncle, who had left the Quaker community to marry a Catholic woman, and had left England.

His mother argued it would give the boy a bad influence.

Maximilian rebelled against his the Quaker influences in his life. He wanted an education, he wanted to live. He went against family orders, and went to University to earn a degree in law, wanting to help people.

It was in London he met Draco. He was impressed with the young man. It was Draco who helped him open a law office and start taking cases. Over the next years he kept contact with his family.

He lived a fast life. He was known around town for his fast horses and women. He was also known for a quick mind in and out of the courthouse, and not always taking cases that helped the rich and powerful.

When he took the case of Herbert Westminster, who was suing to get out of his contract with his employer, his life was destroyed. The evidence he had to push the Politician to end the man’s contract had marked him. The politician refused to bow to a Quaker and a servant and had a thug take them both out.

When Herbert stopped by Maximilian’s office, he found the lawyer laying in a pool of blood. It was quick thinking that got Draco to Maximilian’s side. He asked the man if he wanted to be saved. Maximilian laughed as he was Turned.

His skills were so valuable, that Lamont gave him a retirement option.

Sylum Inspiration: Tongilius

Council: Member

Tongilius came from a wealthy connected family.   He was groomed for politics, and in time he found himself following the words and actions of Lucius Sergius Catilina.

It was rumored they had become lovers, but it was never proven.

Tongilius believed in Catilina and followed him all the way into battle and death.

Sylum Inspiration: Lucius Sergius Catilina

Vampire Council: Member

Catiline was born in 108 BC to one of the oldest patrician families in Rome, gens Sergia. His parents were Lucius Sergius Silus and Belliena. Although his family was of consular heritage, they were then declining in both social and financial fortunes. Virgil later gave the family an ancestor, Sergestus, who had come with Aeneas to Italy, presumably because they were notably ancient; but they had not been prominent for centuries. The last Sergius to be consul had been Gnaeus Sergius Fidenas Coxo in 380 BC. His great-grandfather was Marcus Sergius. Later, these factors would dramatically shape Catiline’s ambitions and goals as he would desire above all else to restore the political heritage of his family along with its financial power.

An able commander, Catiline had a distinguished military career. In 89 BC, during the Social War, he served with Pompey and Cicero, under the consul Gnaeus Pompeius Strabo. He is mentioned on the Asculum Inscription, a bronze tablet which was once nailed to the wall of an unknown public building in Rome, which records the names of Pompey Strabo’s council (consilium) when he granted citizenship to several auxiliaries in his army. During the regime of Gaius Marius, Lucius Cornelius Cinna and Gnaeus Papirius Carbo, Catiline played no major role, but he remained politically secure, married to the niece of Gaius Marius. He later supported Lucius Cornelius Sulla in the civil war of 84–81 BC. According to accusations made by Cicero, during Sulla’s proscription Catiline helped Quintus Lutatius Catulus avenge himself upon Catiline’s brother-in-law, Marcus Marius Gratidianus, the prosecutor who had caused the death of his father. Catiline maimed and killed his brother-in-law at the tomb of the elder Catulus, then decapitated the corpse. Catiline proceeded to carry the head through the streets of Rome and deposited it at Sulla’s feet at the Temple of Apollo. Catiline was also accused of murdering his first wife and son so that he could marry the wealthy and beautiful Aurelia Orestilla, daughter of the consul of 71 BC, Gnaeus Aufidius Orestes. In the early 70s BC he served abroad, possibly with Publius Servilius Vatia in Cilicia. In 73 BC, he was brought to trial for adultery with a Vestal Virgin, a capital crime. Catulus, by then the principal leader of the Optimates, testified in his favor. Catiline was acquitted.

He was praetor in 68 BC, and for the following two years was the propraetorian governor for Africa. Upon his return home in 66 BC, he presented himself as a candidate for the consular elections, but a delegation from Africa appealing to the Senate, indicting him for abuses, prevented this as the incumbent consul, Lucius Volcatius Tullus, disallowed the candidacy. He was finally brought to trial in 65 BC, where he received the support of many distinguished men, including many consulars. Even one of the consuls for 65 BC, Lucius Manlius Torquatus, demonstrated his support for Catiline.  Cicero also contemplated defending Catiline in court. Eventually, Catiline was acquitted. The author of the Commentariolum Petitionis, possibly Cicero’s brother, Quintus Cicero, suggests that Catiline was only acquitted by the fact that “he left the court as poor as some of his judges had been before the trial,” implying that he bribed his judges.

There are at least two conspiracies from his life, which led to his glorious death, well until Hector stepped into the picture.

Sylum Inspiration: Darren Griffin

Oceania: Member

Darren Griffin was born to a middle class family in Leeds, England.   His whole life he wanted to be a Rugby player.   He met Benjamin Turner when they were eight years old, and a lifetime friendship was born.

They were separated when Ben returned back to Australia, with his family when they were sixteen.   Devastated at loosing his friend, they both fought to stay in contact, slowly realizing they were more than friends.

Darren went on to University, playing rugby, and was recruited straight into the Rugby League team Leeds Rhinos.   It was there he started to get more internationally known, helping his goal to get to Australia.

After the Rhino’s won against the Melbourne Storm in a match between England and Australia, he was picked up the owner of the Tasmanian Devils  Marc Key. It was then Darren discovered the owner was actually Marquis and owned more than a Football team, who helped them learn about each other and got Ben onto the Devils.

Darren and Ben hid their relationship until a photograph outed them.  The team stood by them, and most of the NRL didn’t give a crap.  Darren’s parents rejected the fact he was with Ben, and refuse to speak to him.

Tragedy struck when two players on an opposing team hit Ben so hard sent him to the hospital.

When Darren arrived to see him he got the shock of his life.

Sylum Inspiration: Benjamin Turner

Oceania: Member

Benjamin was the son of Marion and Arron Turner.   His life was turned up side down when his father took a position at Leeds University, in Leeds, UK.   He hated his parents for destroying his life at 8 years old.

Then he met Darren Griffin, who became his best friend.

For eight years they lived in each others pocket, lived and breathed rugby.  When he was sixteen, his father got a job back in Australia, and if he he had hated them when he was eight it was ten times worse when he was sixteen.

They swore to stay in contact, and slowly over the years they developed from friendship to relationship.  While Darren had ended up at University playing Rugby, Ben had been asked to join The Perth Black Swans junior team, then worked his way onto the Black Swans NRL Team, as halfback.

They worked to keep their relationship, and Ben had to admit it got easier when Darren made it to Australia.  Then he shocked him by introducing him to the owner of the Tasmania Devils ‘The Marquis’ and Kai.

Not soon after he was recruited the Devils, and despite everything it was perfect until they were forced out of the closet, leading to Ben’s injury, and subsequent Turning.

When Kermit got wind of a possible drug ring that had connections to Brazil and was coming over the border, he began digging through leads and informants trying to find information. The further he got into the investigation the more dangerous it got. Him and Nico got into an argument, when he told him to back off from the investigation. The Clan Leader threw his arms up called him a stubborn ass, and stormed off.

When he got a lead from an informant he took after it, not telling anyone where he was going. It was then he realized why Nico was telling him to back off, he was dealing with a pack of Rogue Vampires.

And they heard him coming a mile away.
