Ethan was good at espionage. He was fast on his feet and thought three steps ahead of everyone else. James used him for many operations through Europe, including to help steal top secrets from Intelligence sources in Britain.

It was at during one of these missions, that Ethan began to realize Phelps was playing a double sided game. When he confronted the man, he found himself in a far worse situation.

Sylum Inspiration: Nicolaus Meridius

Sylum: Clan Leader

Born Nicolaus Valerius Meridius in 399 AD, Rome, Italy, youngest son of Vitus Crescentius Meridius, he was the younger brother to Artorius Flavius Meridius.

He followed in his brother’s footsteps and entered the Army, where his dedication and strategic mind moved him quickly up the ranks. At the age of eighteen he bought a Persian slave, Sofya, from the market and made her his wife. His father had at first forbid the match, but Sofya’s sweet nature and charming smile won him over. Julia, wife to his brother Artorius, took her in and taught her how to be a proper Roman wife. On their wedding night she became with child, much to the delight to the Meridius household since Julia had not yet been able to conceive.

Meridia was the first born daughter of Nicolaus Valerius Meridius and she was the apple of her father’s eye. She had her mother’s olive skin and eyes that would pierce your very soul. She had the household wrapped around her little finger and knew it.

Nico had gone to visit his father, leaving Sofya and Meridia at their villa in the city of Rome. As Nico and Artorius made the way back to Nico’s home, they heard shouts and saw smoke billowing into the sky. Fear clutching their hearts, they ran the rest of the way only to find the building engulfed in flames. Nico and Artorius moved to the back of the house, but the fire was hot and the smoke thick, but through it he could make out his wife’s body lying on the floor, and he could hear Meridia’s screams. It took all his brother’s strength to keep him from running into the burning home. He collapsed to his knees when his child’s cries stopped, and his own scream echoed through the surrounding buildings as the roof of the villa collapsed.

No one knew who had attacked his young wife. Rumors spread that people were angered that Nico had taken a Persian slave as a wife. Others said it was retribution for perceived past injustices.

Nico left Rome and returned to the Army with his brother, throwing himself into his career, hoping to forget the screams of his little girl, but it wasn’t long before tragedy struck the Meridius family again. Artorius was killed in battle, and upon hearing of his oldest son’s death, their father’s heart gave out and he followed his son and grandchild to Elysium.

Nico found himself Patriarch of the family Meridii, and he took Julia as his wife to maintain her ties with the Meridius line. They had a good, strong marriage. She gave him four children: Elena, Antonio, Gloria, and Theodosis. He lost Julia in childbirth with Theo, her loss a further devastation to him, for she had become a good wife and faithful friend. It was the companionship of his lover Razi, a former Gladiator, and his handful of children that made life joyous.

Two years later devastation hit the Meridius family once again. His military Second in Command, Marcus, consumed by anger and jealousy of Nico’s position and power, rode straight into the villa with troops. Razi fought by his Master’s side, only to be cut down along with the family tutor, Cyrus. Marcus slit Antonio and Gloria’s throats in front of Nico. As the soldiers Nico had once commanded beat him to the ground, he was forced to listen to Elena’s screams as she was beaten and raped. A young soldier, who was himself betrothed to Elena, died trying to save her. Their blood mingled as they laid dead at Nico’s feet.

Nico was stripped and crucified, with the bodies of his family laid out at his feet, and in one final act of defiance, Marcus stole Theo from his family to raise him as his own son.

Sylum Inspiraiton: Horatio Caine

Sylum: Head of Security

Born Horatio Caine in 1955 AD, New York – USA, eldest son of Henry and Elizabeth Caine.

His younger brother Raymond Caine was born eight years later.

Horatio’s homelife was far from pleasant, as his father was violently abusive to both him and his mother.

When she returned there was some conflict between the two, Megan feeling as if Horatio had taken her team. When she realized that the team was loyal to Caine, she left Miami.

Horatio always made sure those who could not speak were spoken for. He had become, in many aspects, Miami’s Guardian Angel.

Though he protected and watched over all of his team, Timothy Speedle had caught his eye. He always made sure to watch over him at a crime scene, realizing the CSI had a tendency to get lost in the science, and not see potential threats.

When Speed was shot and killed, Horatio felt as if someone had ripped a part of his soul out of his body. When he finally made his way down to the Morgue he stood in the doorway in shock. Speed was standing talking to Alexx Woods.

Speed sat them down and told them a story of Vampires, and of his life in Ireland. Horatio knew his soul belonged to Speed, he just wasn’t sure how to handle this whole new world he was exposed to.

Speed took his time and courted Horatio for six months. It wasn’t until Warrick Brown came to Miami to talk to Horatio that he learned that Speed was hurting due to the incomplete Bond.

Horatio put away his fears and gave himself to his Mate.

Tutankhamen had known about the Medjai and some of their eternal members.  He had asked many times about what it was like to be immortal, but Aragorn couldn’t answer as he was just a warrior.

He was the one who wrote Malik and Ahkmenrah, asking them to visit, thinking the young pharaoh would enjoy talking to the once pharaoh. While the two talked, Aragorn pulled Malik aside to let him know of his fears that there was a plot against the young king. Though he had married, both children had died in infancy, giving him no heirs and he had made many enemies while changing the Egyptian religious and physical landscape.

His main concern was General Horemheb.

When Ahkmenrah informed the guards that Tut’s chariot had crashed, Aragorn got to Tut’s chambers, just as the doctor set his leg. He didn’t like the way his charge looked or the high fever.

Sylum: Member

Michael Westen’s file is labeled RED, therefore most of it is classified.

What is known about Michael is that he’s the oldest son of Frank and Madeline Westen. He has a younger brother, Nate Westen. Michael and his father did not get alone, and many times Michael took a beating or two to protect his mother and brother.

At age seventeen he left home and joined the Army. He worked his way up the ranks, and became a Ranger. It has come to light recently that he was in Somalia, and his actions during that campaign had him recruited into Delta Force.

It was while he was in training he was recruited out of Delta into the CIA.

Between finding those who Burned him, helping others in need, and dealing with family. Micheal was ready to go back to being a spy.

‘Management’ tries to control Michael’s life by making him do jobs for them. The few times he tries to get away from them, with help from others he pulled in deeper at some points skirting that line that he’s worked so hard never to cross.

It was on one of these jobs, that he got Jesse Porter Burned.  Desperate to get Jesse re-instated, find those who Burned him, and end this game – Michael went after John Barrett.

But before that meeting was to take place Michael was taken from an arranged meeting. He was confronted by Don Jon and Larry. Tired of his life being manipulated by everyone, Michael refused their offer.

Don Turned him anyways.

Sylum Inspiration: Paris

Vampire Council: Spy Network

Paris was a child of Priam and Hecuba. Just before his birth, his mother dreamed that she gave birth to a flaming torch. This dream was interpreted by the seer Aesacus as a foretelling of the downfall of Troy, and he declared that the child would be the ruin of his homeland. On the day of Paris’s birth it was further announced by Aesacus that the child born of a royal Trojan that day would have to be killed to spare the kingdom, being the child that would bring about the prophecy. Though Paris was indeed born before nightfall, he was spared by Priam; Hecuba, too, was unable to kill the child, despite the urging of the priestess of Apollo, one Herophile. Instead, Paris’s father prevailed upon his chief herdsman, Agelaus, to remove the child and kill him. The herdsman, unable to use a weapon against the infant, left him exposed on Mount Ida, hoping he would perish there (cf: Oedipus); he was, however, suckled by a she-bear. Returning after nine days, Agelaus was astonished to find the child still alive, and brought him home in a backpack (πήρα, hence Paris’s name, which means “backpack”) to rear as his own. He returned to Priam bearing a dog’s tongue as evidence of the deed’s completion.

Paris’s noble birth was betrayed by his outstanding beauty and intelligence; while still a child he routed a gang of cattle-thieves and restored the animals they had stolen to the herd, thereby earning the surname Alexander (“protector of men”). It was at this time that Oenone became Paris’s first lover. She was a nymph from Mount Ida in Phrygia. Her father was Cebren, a river-god (other sources declare her to be the daughter of Oeneus). She was skilled in the arts of prophecy and medicine, which she had been taught by Rhea and Apollo respectively. When Paris later left her for Helen she told him that if he ever was wounded, he should come to her for she could heal any injury, even the most serious wounds.

Paris’s chief distraction at this time was to pit Agelaus’s bulls against one another. One bull began to win these bouts consistently, and Paris began to set it against rival herdsmen’s own prize bulls; it defeated them all. Finally Paris offered a golden crown to any bull that could defeat his champion. Ares responded to this challenge by transforming himself into a bull and easily winning the contest. Paris gave the crown to Ares without hesitation; it was this apparent honesty in judgment that prompted the gods of Olympus to have Paris arbitrate the divine contest between Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena.

In celebration of the marriage of Peleus and Thetis, Lord Zeus, father of the Greek pantheon, hosted a banquet on Mount Olympus. Every deity and demi-god had been invited, except Eris, the goddess of strife (no one wanted a troublemaker at a wedding). For revenge, Eris threw the golden Apple of Discord inscribed with the word “Kallisti” — “For the fairest” — into the party, provoking a squabble among the attendant goddesses over for whom it had been meant.

The goddesses thought to be the most beautiful were Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, and each one claimed the apple. They started a quarrel so they asked Zeus to choose one of them. Knowing that choosing any of them would bring him the hatred of the other two, Zeus did not want to take part in the decision. He thus appointed Paris to select the most beautiful. Escorted by Hermes, the three goddesses bathed in the spring of Mount Ida and approached Paris as he herded his cattle. Having been given permission by Zeus to set any conditions he saw fit, Paris required that the goddesses undress before him. (Alternatively, the goddesses themselves chose to disrobe to show all their beauty.) Still, Paris could not decide, as all three were ideally beautiful, so the goddesses attempted to bribe him to choose among them – Hera offered ownership of all of Europe and Asia; Athena offered skill in battle, wisdom and the abilities of the greatest warriors; and Aphrodite offered the love of the most beautiful woman on Earth, Helen of Sparta. Paris chose Aphrodite— and, therefore, Helen.

Helen was already married to King Menelaus of Sparta (a fact Aphrodite neglected to mention), so Paris had to raid Menelaus’s house to steal Helen from him (according to some accounts, she fell in love with Paris and left willingly). The Greeks’ expedition to retrieve Helen from Paris in Troy is the mythological basis of the Trojan War. This triggered the war because Helen was famous for her beauty throughout Achaea (ancient Greece), and had many suitors of extraordinary ability. Therefore, following Odysseus’s advice, her father Tyndareus made all suitors promise to defend Helen’s marriage to the man he chose for her. When she disappeared to Troy, Menelaus invoked this oath. Helen’s other suitors—who between them represented the lion’s share of Achaea’s strength, wealth and military prowess—were obligated to help bring her back. Thus, the whole of Greece moved against Troy in force. The Trojan War had begun.

The one thing Paris hadn’t expected … Helen was a Vampire.

Sylum Inspiration: Lady Blossom

Shogun: Spy Liaison

Lady Blossom was trained from an early age to work as a courtesan. Her skill set got her into the high ranking levels of Kublai Khan’s ‘pleasure house’. She became one of his favorite courtesans.

It was there she learned information, made connections, and worked through the system to make sure she was protected along with a few girls she took under he wing. When she discovered a spy within the house she used her position to approach Kublai personally. He rewarded her loyalty with her freedom, she chose to stay with the house to protect her ‘girls’.

It was through this she met Sifu, Hundred Eyes. She knew something was different about him from the beginning, and just because he was blind didn’t mean she couldn’t seduce him. He chuckled as she took her own pleasure from him, then demanded answers.

Never a man to truly lie, he told her the truth. He was a Vampire, who was there to watch Khan. He had the added benefit of watching over the young Polo.

She continued her alliance with Sifu, and when the time came requested to be Turned. Pointing out he needed her. She had an inside to Khan, he countered with the fact so did he as did Marco. She also had an in with the Queen, and knew which girls could be useful to get information from other sources, he countered with the fact no one notices the blind man sitting near by.

She finally pulled a knife and demanded. Sifu laughed as he fought with her. At the end he had her pinned to the floor. ‘Now that is why I’ll Turn you’

Sylum Inspiration: James Bond

Camelot: Hunter

Bond is possibly not James’ actual surname, but one he took later.  Rumor suggests that he chose it from a descendant, but no one knows for sure.

James is M’s son. From his mother, he learned everything about Court, spying, and the manipulation of others to obtain information.  She trained her son well, and had hopes for him to marry the next Queen, but was soon disappointed.

After she was Turned, she quickly Turned her son too.

They would not claim the Throne, not desiring that much unbridled power and unmitigated misery, but instead work in the shadows for England’s betterment.

Sylum Inspiration: Drogo

Drogo is hidden away at Masyaf.   He’s the largest of all the Dragons, bigger than Draco.

(Dilios Note: I’ve not seen him to be able to tell you how big it is, but Rhys has stated Drogo’s brother was the one St. George defeated, and he remembered the Black Dragon as huge and filled the sky, with the ability to destroy armies in seconds with his fire)

He has the ability to camouflage into mountains, and mostly looks like a mountain or a crop of rocks.

Dastan has stated he has protected Masyaf, and he’s known to a few of the Assassins.  They protect him as much as he tolerates them nearby.

Sylum Inspiration: Tiny Terror

No one is quite sure where Tiny Terror comes from.  They do know he’s a dragon like Draco, but a different breed.

He’s about 4ft in length, comes up to mid calf on average size human.  He has the ability to spit fire, which is extremely hard to put out.

(Dilios Note: Just ask Muldoon and his never ending supply of shoe laces)

He hides in the tall grasses of Africa and hunts smaller animals.

Tiny became part of Ghost and Darkness when I found him wandering and adopted him.  He doesn’t like Muldoon much, but adores Grady.

Sylum Inspiration: Mushu

Mushu is a different dragon that Draco or Tiny Terror.   He has the ability to talk like Draco, but not nearly as big.  Mushu is about 8ft long, and stands about 3 ft high on his four legs.  He can if concentrates sit up, balancing on his back legs which makes him about 6ft high.  He can wind himself around trees, and as the ability to camouflage.  He can also mimic statues, making him a good spy.

No one knows how old Mushu is, just one day he showed up to Katsumoto, and ended up art of the clan. When Nathan appeared, Mushu declared that Nathan was his human and he takes care of him.

There are running bets in Shogun on when Nathan will be able to walk across the large open field without tripping over Mushu, who slides in and around his feet while he does it.   There has only been one moment in history where it almost happened.  Nathan was recovering from the concentration camp and was stalking across the field – everyone watched holding their breath as he was only a few feet from the forest line – when he went down.

Katsumoto had found his Mate curled up with Mushu.

He helped Nathan deal with his ordeal.  It’s the only reason he keeps the snarky annoying dragon around.

Sylum Inspiration: Cloudjumper

Cloudjumper according to Hiccup is a Stormcutter, because of the abilities to cut through weather due to their unique two sets of wings.  He’s about the size of Draco, with owl like expressions.  He has an easy going personality, and can be very playful.  He’s very loyal to Valka, who come to find out has returned in Paul Mallory.

Sylum Inspiration: Draco

No one knows where Draco comes from, nor do they know how old he is.

He says he’s as old as the stars and knows more of this world and beyond, than even the Vampires.

There were more of his kind once, but Bowen had hunted most of the down, including the last female of Draco’s size.

(Dilios Note: He still hasn’t forgiven Bowen for that)

He’s stayed close to Bowen over the years, living nicely in his cave under Tintagel.

For an old creature he loves his high tech items, and is likely the only dragon with a StarkPhone.
