    I have a few.

    1) to lose a certain amount of weight by the end of the year
    2) to get the online part of my business up and running
    3) to write 500k words

Working on all of these, and won’t know if I accomplish them until later on down the line.

  2. I have several, but my big 3 are
    1) Ditch the gym & use the outdoors to get fit
    2) Really work on getting my business off the ground
    3) Do more that makes me happy

So far I’ve ditched the gym but haven’t done much on the get fit front due to ill health and have a few things in the diary to move the business forwards, which actually makes me happy so I guess I’m kinda on track for all 3!

Don’t look at the scale, and whatever you do, do not weigh yourself every day. You will only get discouraged, because a lot of factors go into that number: what time of day do you weigh yourself, do you do it at the same time every single time, are you retaining water, is muscle building as you’re losing fat (often the answer is yes, especially if you don’t have a lot of muscle when you first start, and muscle does weigh more than fat). This is especially important when your body hits that plateau where it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and that’s when most people give up.

A better indicator is measurement, and how your clothes fit. What a lot of people do now is take a picture of yourself in some clothing that’s kind of tight, so you can see what you look like. Take that selfie, then in a month, put on the same clothes and take another pic, and do it monthly to see how much progress you made. That’s what I’m doing for myself. I have more of a goal of what clothing size I want to be by the end of the year, rather than weight, because as I said, a lot of factors go into how much I’ll weigh when I reach my target. 😀

          Good luck, hon!

          1. Definitely agree – stay off the scales! Best measures are how you’re feeling in general, how much easier the same exercises are getting and how your clothes fit 🙂
Keeping some sort of record of your progress, be it photographs or a journal will help you recognise your progress when you hit a plateau as we often lose sight of just how far we’ve come

Mine is the usual Get Healthy. I’ve written down my goals on my e-mail calendar to help remind me of what I’m doing and there are a few other tricks I’m trying. I just have to get my rear in gear and start exercising more. There is a perfectly good street I’m living on that has people jogging on it even during cold weather. I should give walking in winter a try instead of waiting for the snow to melt on the bike trail behind my house. I guess that yoga and belly dancing for fitness will have to do on the nights I work 3rd shift.

The other is “Let Go and Let God”, or in the immortal words of Bobby McFerrin “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”. I think prayer will go a long way in my life. (And may be help with the urge to eat everything in sight when I’m stressed.)

To Everyone working on their goals and resolutions: Good Fortune!

    1) Try to reduce the number of big bangs I signup for

    2) Get back on my diet and back to walking in the park (which I’ll hopefully, finally, be cleared for by my knee doc on next friday)

    3) Take an actual vacation
