Animation!

We’ve all grown up with animated movies.   Either the classics like Sleeping Beauty, Robin Hood, Dumbo.  Or the 2nd Golden Age with Lion King, Beauty and the Beast.  And now added in Dreamworks with Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon.

What’s your fondest memory of an Animated Film from childhood?  Favorite film now?

I didn’t really watch a lot of animated movies as a young child, since I was in that awkward time where the only videos were Beta and VHS was barely coming out, and animated movies were only seen when they actually showed on television and were made once every several years. When they became more commonplace, The Lion King was definitely my favorite.

Thanks to my sister, I can recite the entirety of the Little Mermaid from opening line to closing because she watched it so much. And thanks to my niece and nephew, I’ve seen most Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks animated movies several times.

One of my latest favorites is The Book of Life, because it’s the first movie that actually deals with my culture and my people’s beliefs and history. That was pretty cool to see.

My favorite American animation movie would be Fantasia. I loved it ever since I was a child, and believe it or not my favorite part of the movie has always been Night On Bald Mountain.

I also enjoy watching Japanese anime and my favorite anime movie is Bleach – The DiamondDust Rebellion.

I can remember when my childhood friend and I went to the cinema to watch Arielle. I’m pretty sure we went 4 times we loved the movie so much. And everytime some mothers had to carry their kids out because the witch was so scary and the kids got frightend.

Arielle is still one of my favourites, followed by Beauty and the beast and Mulan.

When I was a child, Mom and Dad took my brother and I to see Cinderella at the Silver Theater. That theater had only one screen and played a few movies at a time. Watching Disney’s Cinderella is one of my fondest memories of that place. It’s been torn down because of disuse for a couple of decades now.

On another note, I originally watched Christopher Reeves play Superman on a drive in movie screen. We made popcorn at my grandma’s house and brought it with us.
