National Paranormal Day

I know not everyone follows paranormal shows, but for a quick lesson – this is an image from SLS camera.   Basically the stick figure that is seen is anomaly, the SLS camera shows anomalies that the human eye can’t see, basically there’s something there but no one knows what it is: ghost, spirit, something.

I bring this up as the snippet you’re going to get – is based off on one of the songs from Deadpool’s Vampire List that was showcased during Spring Fling – uses a SLS camera.

Song from Deadpool’s Vampire Playlist: There Will Be Fire

Joshua Hanks knew the moment he stepped onto the small island along the swamp, something was wrong.  They had been following the trail of the slaves who had revolted in 1819, which led them to an area of the swamp that was abandoned.  Zachary had taken Ron to check out one of the old shacks, while Josh had taken his brother to the cemetery.  His supernatural instincts had been screaming at him since they got in the boat, his cop instincts was screaming louder.

Jacob was talking a mile a minute as he set up motion sensors around the cemetery, asking questions to the spirits that may have lingered.   His tone was soft and respectful, he talked to those who revolted against their masters, admiring their strength and determination.  He apologized for the wrong doings against them by their masters, and history.   His brother was a good man, despite his own setbacks, and struggles with disabilities and mental illness.   Joshua was proud of him, and despite ex friends, girlfriends, and family – he would stand by his brother and fight for him.

Jacob always stood by Joshua, backed him when no one else would, and excepted him the way he was.  He was the only one, who knew Joshua preferred men, and covered for him.  Despite it being 2020, they still lived in the South, and were raised by conservative parents, add on he was a cop – well hiding was his only option.   He had a bit flexibility when he took the position of Captain of the LSU Campus Police, but if there was anyone who understood how deep the blue line went, it was him.

“Josh.”  Jacob’s voice had a tone that he couldn’t quite place.  It was a mixture of awe, fear, and confusion.

“Found something?”  He asked stepping closer when one of the motion sensors went off.

“There’s something on the SLS, but it doesn’t seem right.”  Jacob showed his brother the image, both paused when they heard a crunch on the dead leaves.

“Last I checked ghosts don’t make noise while walking.”  Josh pulled up his flashlight, catching movement in the trees.

“At your 2’oclock.”

Joshua flipped his light again catching physical movement.  “Get behind me.”  He pulled his gun, holding the flashlight as a sight.

Jacob hadn’t hesitated and moved close to his brother.

Won’t happened next, Jacob couldn’t quite explain.  Out of the trees came something, they weren’t spirits, but they weren’t human.  He stuck to his brother’s side, using the SLS camera to track the anomalies.  Joshua never hesitated, he turned to exactly where Jacob told and fired off a shot, he took at least two down, but when they saw one get back up, they both began to panic.   Their radio was squawking, they could hear Zach and Ronny yelling, demanding to know what was going on.  Neither of them could answers.

They were pushed back towards the trees, Joshua always staying in front of his brother, listening to the sounds around him, despite not being able to see anything past the flashlight.  Each time his brother called out a direction, he shifted, raised his gun and fired.  At least two of the attackers had gone down, head shots usually keep them down.   They were being overwhelmed and he knew it.  The only goal Joshua had was to get his brother to safety.

Jacob call for his brother when he heard the pained grunt.   He reached for Joshua pulling him close, trying to ignore the sticky warm blood dripping through his fingers.   With a yank, an apology for the pained groaned that came from Josh, he got them flat against a tree.   The SLS camera was still in his hands, and there way to anomolies for him to keep track.  The one thing he knew, these weren’t spirits, but just mindless criminals.   He half wished the spirits of those slaves would show up and give them a hand.

He could hear his brother’s shallow breathing, and as close as they were felt the second bullet’s impact.   ‘Dear God I know I stopped going to church because of what the pain it was causing, but please please help my brother.  Send help.’  He whispered with tears moving down his cheek.  His brother was everything to him, was the one who never made him feel like a freak, was patient with him when he didn’t understand school work or how to handle social interactions.  Even now Joshua was making sure Jacob was protected.

Gunshots rang out in the cematery, there was screams and the sound of rats fleeing the area.  Jacob at the moment swore he would go to the nearest church and say thank you.  A light landed in his face, making him cringe.

“You okay?”

“I’m fine.  My brother, he’s injured.”  He dropped the camera and reached to Joshua now able to see the blood had spread even into the jacket.

“What’s your name.” The man helped Joshua sit down.

“Jacob Hank, this is my brother Joshua.”

“Jacob, I’m Richard Grimes and we’re here to help.”
