Well so far I’m keeping up with the ‘snippets’ for the month!!
“He’s where?” Murphy at least sounded calmer, than his brother looked.
Cadfael sighed, looked heavenward, crossed himself then looked at the two Hunters. “He’s with Hugh, and they went to the beach.”
“Without us?” Connor gave the Monk a pointed look. “We are his protectors.”
“You’re also his Mates…”
“Aye, which means we should know where he is.” Murphy wouldn’t yell at the Monk, but his Mate would be fair game when they find them.
“Hugh is perfectly capable of protecting young Patrick!” Cadfael gave them both a stern look. “And as much as I love you boys, almost like the nephews I never had.” That got them both grinning. “You can be intense, and sometimes overwhelming. Especially to a young man, who is starting to learn to what it’s like to live outside the constraints of the cloth.”
“We don’t like him not with in our sight.” Connor took a deep breath.
“I hate to tell you this boys, but you will be sent out on Hunts that you can’t take him. And at one point God will call him back into service.” He had no doubt what the boys went through made them hyper aware of their Mate, and no one really blamed them, least of all Patrick. But they also needed to get used to him doing things outside their comfort zone. “Hugh teaching him how to surf, and if you must know Draco is also with him.”
Both eyerolled.
“Do not underestimate Draco, he uses the snotty attitude as weapon, don’t forget that he’s a damn formidable warrior under those suits.” Cadfael pointed at the two of them. “Like to point out what happened the last time you two dismissed a threat.”
Connor laughed remembering the moment. “How is Lennox’s knitting skills?”
“He sent me a lovely scarf for Christmas.” Cadfael smiled with pride. “I know you’re going to run off, so some advice. Well never mind, not like you listen anyway. And really you’ll learn quickly not to piss off your Mate sooner or later. Do not forget the family he comes from, calm waters run very deep.”

The two boys slipped off their jackets, and their more visible weapons put them in the boot of the car before heading down to the beach. From their position they could see Hugh working with Patrick, while Draco was staying on the beach keep watch. At least it was a secluded beach, and at the moment they were the only ones within a kilometer.
What they weren’t expecting, was how hot Patrick looked wearing a wetsuit, hair soaking wet, a delighted smile and was laughing with joy. He looked healthy and happy, and their thoughts were extremely sinful! Most were under the impression, that the three hadn’t fully Mated. At first they hadn’t, Patrick had a lot of healing to do, and well they themselves had stuff to deal with. It had always been them, they never relied on anyone except their Pa and even not all the time. So it was an adjustment for them to have a third, let alone someone whose whole world perspective was different than theirs.
But they took the advice given with by everyone, kept their own counsel on their relationship, and let Patrick set the pace. They were themselves, answered questions bluntly, never teased but adored the blush that came from it. They let him reach out physically, and when he had questions beyond what they could actually talk about, they had suggested Master David – despite the fact they were banned from the place decades before.
No one talks about it.
Yes, they all Bonded together. They found their footing in the relationship. They will always first be protectors, mates and then lovers.
But at this moment – they were so damn Turned on it wasn’t even funny. Who knew wetsuits did it for them, only problem getting it off.
By the time they made it down to the beach, Patrick was standing waiting for them with a small smile. “What brings you two here?”
Connor just waved his hand up and down indicating their Mate, Murphy rolled his eyes and hit his brother. “Did know you surfed.”
“Hugh’s been teaching me.”
“Who?”
“FUCK YOU!” Hugh yelled from the water, followed closely by. “Sorry Patrick.”
“They deserved it.” He gave his Mates a pointed look, but could feel their low level arousal. “I was going to try for a few more waves.”
“We’ll just sit and watch.” Murphy dragged his brother over to the blankets Draco had set out, and settled down just to watch.
“You two are so damn obvious.” Draco shook his head laughing.
“And how does your two feel about you surfing?” Connor asked eyes not leaving Patrick’s arse as he swam out into the ocean.
“They hate trying to get it off.” He gave them a wink. “Tip, strip it off in a shower much smoother.”
This one got me laughing. All the apologizing for language that goes on around Patrick when someone cusses is hysterical…
Do they forget he did military service with the Italian army? He’s probably heard raunchy words and ideas they’ve never dreamed of.
Let’s face it — no one curses better than military personnel. I think of General Patton and his imagery that involved only one curse word in the whole sentence. Something to the effect of going through an enemy army “like shit through a goose.”
Loved the snippet! The McManus brothers may be tough and scary to the world but with Patrick they’re gentle, loving and patient. And he’s probably scarier than they are in his own way!
Sorry– wordy today.
