Sylum Inspiration: Captain Jack Sparrow

Sanctuary: Hunter

Captain Jack Sparrow was born on the sea in the middle of a typhoon. He doesn’t remember much of his childhood, only that it always consisted of a ship and water.

He’s served on many great ships and had many grand adventures before he was even twenty. It was when he refused to ship humans as cargo that he was branded a Pirate and his life as the infamous Pirate Captain began.

Sparrow made a deal with Davy Jones to pull his ship up from the water and renamed her the Black Pearl. It was then he set out to be a Pirate only to have his crew mutiny and take the ship. Jack couldn’t help but smirk when the crew ended up cursed for stealing the treasure of Isla de Muerta.

Jack escaped the island they abandoned him on.

Sea Turtles was the key, that and rum.

Over the years he wandered, through the islands, his only goal to claim the Pearl back.

He had heard rumors that Barbossa was aiming for Port Royal, that William Turner’s boy was all grown up and could stop the curse. What Sparrow hadn’t expected was to be taken out by his own ship.

He had know about Vampires, seen a few and no one talks about the Jackdaw, so when Odysseus asked if he wanted to be saved.

There was only one word.

Savvy.

Sylum Inspiration: Benji Dunn

Sanctuary: Member

There’s not much on Benji’s childhood. He will tell you it was standard one, with no great memories.  He was born in London to a middle class family.  He fell in love with computers as a kid, and followed a career path that had him recruited by MI:6.

He was poached by IMF

(Dilios Note: M is still pissed about that particular situation)

He started as a tech analyst at IMF working exclusively with Ethan Hunt. When he finally made it out to the field everything had gone to shit.

Benji knew Ethan needed the information and took the materials to him directly, only to end up in a crossfire and shot.  When Ethan asked if he wanted to be Turned, he rolled his eyes and demanded he do it.

Sylum Inspiration: Luther Stickell

Sanctuary: War Counsel

As far as records indicated, Luther appeared in the world when he was in his twenties. He was recruited out of MIT by IMF for his skills in computers and quick thinking. He is ‘disavowed’ ten years later when he confronted his Agent in Charge over information he had uncovered about an assassination attempt.

He may have gone quietly from the building but not from IMF. He continued researching and hacking into variety of programs, sometimes siphoning off money others and exposing bad business to the world.

He is recruited by Ethan Hunt to help him find the Mole within the department, playing up on his ego to hack into the one place you’re not supposed to be able to hack.

The mission was a success and Luther was reinstated into IMF, working on the same team with Ethan. He had a suspicion that something was different with Ethan, besides the manic he gets into while working.

It wasn’t until an OP went wrong that he discovered what Ethan was hiding. He watched on the monitors as everything went to shit; the Mark pulled a gun and shot Ethan before Luther could call in back up.

Then he watched as Ethan struggled to get up and attack the Mark. Clear as day on the screens were fangs and bright eyes. When Ethan returned to the room, Luther pulled his gun and demanded the truth. Faster than anything he had ever seen, the gun was gone and he was pinned to the bed, with Ethan straddling him.

Last month I posted Inspiration for Oceania as I was working on a story for Advent.  This month I’m finishing up the MI storyline which I teased a bit back.  So this month thought be fun to showcase the characters.

Authors Note: As I am working on this story, I can’t guarantee these bios will be the same once the story is finished!  So keep an eye on out and see if can spot the difference.

Ethan grew up during the American Civil War, and had heard the stories of his Uncle who fought gallantly during the war, and then disappeared into the Far East.  Never to be seen again.

He followed in his Uncle’s footsteps and joined the Army. He was quickly recruited out of the Army Military Units and into the Military Intelligence Division.

Where he met James Phelps.

Ethan was good at espionage. He was fast on his feet and thought three steps ahead of everyone else. James used him for many operations through Europe, including to help steal top secrets from Intelligence sources in Britain.

It was at during one of these missions, that Ethan began to realize Phelps was playing a double sided game. When he confronted the man, he found himself in a far worse situation.

Sanctuary Clan: Member

Charles Evan grew up in Scotland and since he was a child had every intention of being a Veterinarian.  He loved animals, and was known around his village to pick up strays and nurse them back to heath.  It didn’t matter if it was a cat, dog, snake, or cow.

He lucked out when he found a room to rent from a business man, Paul Mallory, who was gone most of the time, letting him have run of the house for a fraction of the cost.  Over the years of his education, he became friends with Paul.  He always made sure the place was warm and welcome when Paul came home, as he ignored the menagerie of animals that was always around.

His life changed when he came home early to find that Reginald had escaped and was in Paul’s room, he quickly broke into the room, to get the snake out, when Paul and another man returned unexpectedly.  Charles looked up to see a flash of gold in Paul’s eyes and before he could blink the man was on him.

Sylum Inspiration: Brandon Sullivan

Sanctuary: Member

Brandon doesn’t talk about his childhood.  His parents had a volatile relationship and should’ve never had children.

He and his sister, Sissy, ended up pretty fucked up by the time they hit their adult years (Dilios Note: His words)

Brandon doesn’t remember exactly how it happened.  Just that one minute he was making deal with some rich asshole to get his sister out of bad situation, the next he woke up chained in a shed in the middle of the jungle, with some Aussie next to him.

Sylum Inspiration: Butch Cassidy

Sanctuary: Hunter

Robert Leroy Parker (Butch Cassidy) was born April 13, 1866, in Beaver, Utah, the first of 13 children born to British immigrants Maximillian Parker and Ann Campbell Gillies. The Parker and Gillies families had converted in England and Scotland to the Mormon faith and immigrated to Utah. Maximilian Parker was 12 when his family arrived in Salt Lake in 1856; Ann Gillies arrived with her family in 1859, aged 14. The two were married in July 1865.

Robert Leroy Parker, named for his paternal grandfather, was the first of the 13 children of Maximillian and Ann Parker. He grew up on their ranch near Circleville, Utah,215 miles south of Salt Lake City. He left home during his early teens. While working at a dairy farm, he formed a close relationship with his mentor, a cowboy and cattle rustler who called himself Mike Cassidy (an alias for John Tolliver “J. T.” McClammy). Parker subsequently worked at several ranches, in addition to a brief stint as a butcher in Rock Springs, Wyoming, when he acquired the nickname “Butch”, to which he soon appended the surname Cassidy in honor of his old friend.

He associated with a circle of criminals, most notably his closest friend Elzy Lay, Harvey “Kid Curry” Logan, Ben Kilpatrick, Harry Tracy, Will “News” Carver, Laura Bullion, and George Curry, who became the nucleus of the Wild Bunch.

On August 13, 1896, Cassidy, Lay, Harvey Logan and Bob Meeks robbed the bank at Montpelier, Idaho, escaping with approximately $7,000. Shortly thereafter he[clarification needed] recruited Harry Longabaugh, alias “The Sundance Kid”, a native of Pennsylvania, into the Wild Bunch.

In early 1897, Cassidy was joined at Robbers Roost by Ann Bassett, Elzy Lay, and Lay’s girlfriend Maude Davis. The four hid there until early April, when Lay and Cassidy sent the women home so that they could plan their next robbery. On April 21, 1897, in the mining town of Castle Gate, Utah, Cassidy and Lay ambushed a small group of men carrying the payroll of the Pleasant Valley Coal Company, stealing a sack containing $7,000 in gold, with which they fled to the Robbers Roost.

On June 2, 1899, the gang robbed a Union Pacific Overland Flyer near Wilcox, Wyoming, a robbery that became famous and which resulted in a massive man hunt. Many notable lawmen of the day took part in the hunt for the robbers, but they were not found.

During a shootout with lawmen following that robbery, both Kid Curry and George Curry shot and killed Sheriff Joe Hazen. Tom Horn, a killer for hire employed by the Pinkerton Agency, obtained information from explosives expert Bill Speck about the Hazen shooting, and Horn passed this information to Pinkerton detective Charlie Siringo. The gang escaped into the Hole-In-The-Wall. Siringo was assigned the task of capturing the outlaw gang. He became friends with Elfie Landusky, who was using the last name Curry after allegedly becoming pregnant by Kid Curry’s brother, Lonny. Through her, Siringo intended to locate the gang.

On July 11, 1899, Lay and others were involved in a Colorado and Southern Railroad train robbery near Folsom, New Mexico, which Cassidy may have planned and personally directed. A shootout ensued with local law enforcement in which Lay killed Sheriff Edward Farr and Henry Love; Lay was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment at New Mexico State Penitentiary.

The Wild Bunch would separate following a robbery and flee in different directions, reuniting at a predetermined location, such as the Hole-in-the-Wall hideout, Robbers Roost, or Madame Fannie Porter’s brothel, in San Antonio, Texas.

It was 1902 when Butch and Sundance ended up robbing a bank that happened to have Will and Sparrow inside. It went wrong from the moment they stepped into the building. In the end Sundance and Butch escaped with the two Vampires’ help, and ended up Turned.

No one was surprised they were Mates.

Sylum Inspiration: Seth Gecko

Sanctuary Clan: Hunter

Seth and Richie Gecko, though not as famous outlaws as Dillinger or Bonnie and Clyde, had their fair share of infamous criminal glor.  They wreaked havoc across the western landscape of the US.

When Richie broke Seth out of jail, killing innocent people in the process, it was then Seth knew he had to get his brother out of the country.  He needed a place to stash Richie, and keep an eye on him – Seth had always known there was something wrong with his brother.

They traveled down to Mexico, stopping at an out of the way bar, only to end up in the middle of a Rogue hangout. Seth found himself fighting back to back with a cowboy and an English prick – later to be identified as Brisco Country Jr. and William Pratt.

In the middle of the battle he was dragged away from the main group.

When he woke up he was dead.

Sylum Inspiration: Jack Harkness

Sanctuary: Hunter

Very little is known about Jack.

He was born in England, hints have been dropped that it was in or around London.

He joined the Army during World War 2.  His service record disappeared, so no one was sure what unit he was in or how he ended up behind enemy lines.  (Dilios Note: Rumors and theories … both of which I hate speculating on … point towards him working as a spy – I’ve not yet had this confirmed and Shadow isn’t returning my phone calls)

Spike ran into him while he was fighting a group of Rogues, he was impressed that Jack was holding own against them.   Once Jack finished off the last Rogue, with a flourish of his sword, he turned on Spike.

He still wasn’t sure how he ended up Turned and Mated.

Considering the new trailer for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation was just released – introducing Ethan Hunt felt appropriate.
