What is World Migratory Bird Day?
I had no idea until I ran across this.
World Migratory Bird Day is a conservation initiative that brings awareness on conserving migratory birds and their habitats throughout the Western Hemisphere. This program is dedicated to international conservation efforts and environmental education in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Originated by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center, it is now coordinated by Environment for the Americas.
Why are we posting it?
A) This is kinda awesome!
B) We’ve been trying to showcase new and unique Holidays/International Events
C) Nico would be all over this due to his own affinity to Birds
More Information:
Wonderful day! The robins showed up early a month ago (poor things, it keeps getting cold) and one has built her nest in our small pine. The wrens have showed up, and I found one checking out the various bird houses…now I’m just waiting for the eastern bluebirds to show up (they reuse the same box every year)
